Why can't I connect Corel Cinco to Painter while running on Windows?

On Windows XP, ensure the following:

  • The Painter 12.2 update is installed
  • Painter is enabled to connect to companion apps
  • Corel Cinco and Painter are running on the same Wi-Fi network

If all of these issues are addressed and you still can't connect, you need to ensure that Bonjour is installed on your Windows system. On Windows XP, you may also need to ensure that the Update Firewall settings allow Painter 12 to act as a web server. When you enabled the Allow companion applications to connect to Painter option in the Connections, Preferences dialog box, you were most likely prompted to unblock Corel Painter 12. However, if you skipped this option at the time, Corel Cinco can't connect to the Painter 12 web service.

To verify a Bonjour installation on Windows XP:

  1. Click Start, Control Panel.
  2. In the right pane, select the Add or Remove Programs category.
  3. Ensure that Bonjour is displayed in the Currently installed programs list.

If you don't have Bonjour installed, you can download it for free from Apple here: support.apple.com/kb/DL999.

To verify Bonjour installation on Windows 7:

  1. Click Start, Control Panel.
  2. In the right pane, select the Programs category.
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Ensure that Bonjour is displayed in the Currently installed programs list.

If you don't have it installed, you can download it for free from Apple here: support.apple.com/kb/DL999.

To unblock the Corel Painter 12 web service (Windows XP):

  1. Click Start, Control Panel.
  2. In the right pane, select the Security Center category.
  3. In the Windows Security Center dialog box, click Windows Firewall.
  4. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Exceptions tab.
  5. Select Add Program and make sure that both Corel Painter 12 and Bonjour are added to the Exceptions list.

Why does it take a long time for Corel Cinco to connect to Corel Painter 12?

A slow connection may be due to the size of the icons that you used in your Painter custom palettes. If your icons are too large, it will take a long time for Cinco to get your custom palette from Painter. To increase the connection speed, make sure that the custom palette icons in Painter are no larger than 64 x 64 pixels.

I can connect Corel Cinco to Painter 12, but then the authentication code fails. What causes the authentication code failure?

The failure may be caused by the length of the authentication code that you set in Corel Painter. Make sure that the authentication code is no longer than 11 characters.

To modify the authentication code in Corel Painter 12:

  1. Click Edit > Preferences > Connections (Windows) or Corel Painter 12 > Preferences > Connections (Mac).
  2. Type a new code in the Authentication Code box (maximum 11 characters).

Why do certain iPad™ gestures interrupt my Corel Cinco session?

If you lay your hand on your iPad when using Corel Cinco, this may unintentionally invoke iPad's Multitasking Gestures and suspend your Corel Cinco. To prevent the Multitasking Gestures from disrupting your workflow, we recommended that you disable iPad's Multitasking Gestures when using Corel Cinco for Painter.

To disable iPad Multitasking Gestures:

  1. In the iPad, click Settings.
  2. Select General from the list of categories.
  3. Scroll until you find Multitasking Gestures, and set the option to OFF.

Why has Painter 12 stopped executing commands from Corel Cinco?

If you can no longer execute a command from Corel Cinco, verify that your wireless connection is working. If your wireless connection is working, Painter 12 may be unresponsive because the application is in a modal state. For example, a dialog box in Painter 12 may be open and preventing you from executing commands from Corel Cinco.

When I make changes to a custom palette or workspace in Painter 12, the changes are not reflected in Corel Cinco. Why does this happen?

The changes that you make to your Painter custom palettes are not automatically reflected in Corel Cinco. You can update your custom palette(s) by opening the Palette Settings panel in Corel Cinco. This automatically updates all of the visible palettes in Corel Cinco and displays an up-to-date list of all of the available palettes. Similarly, if you make a workspace change in Painter, we recommended that you open the Palette Settings panel in Corel Cinco so that the latest changes in Painter are also available in Corel Cinco.
